To speak of reconciliation is to assume a relationship has been broken. It may be a husband and wife, father and son, or once-close friends; something has happened to open an uncrossable chasm that threatens the survival of the relationship. Reconciliation becomes possible only when someone makes the first move,; a hand extended, a phone call, a word spoken in forgiveness. The Bible teaches that sin has separated us from God. The relationship is broken. We have to forgive others when they have wronged us and have to see forgiveness when we have wronged others. God makes the first move and extends not just His hand, not just words, but His son, Jesus Christ. We must follow the example of God, who extends to us the ultimate pardon – forgiveness for our sins.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (Isaiah 1:18)
