Life in the Spirit: A Few Important Things You Need to Know

Here are a three very important things that you need to know about life in the Spirit

1. Do you know what it means to be living in the Spirit.

The Bible tells us that they that are in the flesh cannot please God. We see this in Romans 8:8: “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Paul goes on later in verse 9 to say that living in the Spirit means that you have put away the things of the flesh, such as the carnal way of thinking and have decided to take on a life where you are full of the Holy Spirit. (But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his – Romans 8:9). In other words you are living in God or with God’s Spirit on the inside, when you are living in the Spirit.

Therefore, when you are living in the Spirit this means that:

  • You have made a decision to accept the Holy Spirit to be an integral part of your life. Why is this so important? According to Galatians 5: 19-21 “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”. A life with these works of the flesh only leads us directly to hell. On the other hand, a life in/with the Spirit, honors God. We see the characteristics of this type of life described in Galatians 5:22-23 says: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

2. Did you know that as you live in the spirit, your view of the things must change?

Ephesians 6:12 says: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

There are a set of spiritual forces that come against us in every area of life. There is a demonic war against our lives and the devil will use whoever he will to come against us.

Therefore when we live in the Spirit, we see in the spirit and realise that whatever comes up against, is not an attack on our flesh, but rather something deeper that is happening on a spiritual level.

3. Did you know that there is a set of Spiritual ammunition that help you fight in the Spirit in order to destroy all spiritual/demonic/fleshy attacks?

Our response must therefore be a spiritual response, where we employ the Holy Spirit and His ammunition to help us.

This ammunition is seen in Ephesians 6:13-18:

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

If you remember nothing that I have said in this article, remember this one thing:

If we are living in the flesh (carnal way of life and living in sin) we cannot please God. We have been originally made for God’s pleasure, so if our lives are not pleasurable towards Gods, then this is time for a change. It is time to get back to the original plan for our lives which God has set out. Yes, because we live in a sinful and fallen world, our flesh adopts that nature, but today is the day to make the decision to come back to Christ and live His original plan for us, which is to live in the Spirit, so that we can shun the pits of hell and ultimately have everlasting life.

What’s the Intention of Your Questions & Conversations?

Screen Shot 2016-11-08 at 8.06.07 AM.png

In my morning devotions today I made a new discovery: “foolish questions”. There is indeed something called a foolish question. We see this in the following scripture:

2 Timothy 2:23 King James Version (KJV)

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

We always hear that there is no question that is foolish and this is indeed true, but what makes a question foolish, is the intention behind the question.

What’s the Intention of Your Questions & Conversations?

If a question is being asked to cause strife, then according to Paul it is a foolish and unlearned question. In other words the person is being ignorant and only seeking to cause problems. Selah!

The Strong’s Concordance translates the word “foolish” from the original language as “foolish talk”. That’s why we see the NIV, HCSB and NLT  versions talking about foolish, stupid or ignorant arguments:

New International Version (NIV)

Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

But reject foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they breed quarrels.

New Living Translation (NLT)

Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.

Be very careful with the questions you ask and the arguments and conversations that you get into. If they are meant from strife, avoid them like a plague! God’s calling is for us to be wise.

Watch your conversations!

Blessed is He Who Remains Focused

I look again at Psalm 1 and the more I study this psalm, the more and more revelation is given by the Holy Spirit.

Take a look at verse 1:

Psalm 1:1

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Look at it in this way: Notice the slowing down of the individual talked about in verse 1. The psalmist talks about the man walking in the counsel of the ungodly, then standing in the way of sinners and he ends up sitting in the seat if the scornful. This verse can be symbolic of the person who becoming tired or weary in the things of God. As one moves from walking, to standing and then to sitting, it means one is becoming tired and ultimately resting, and when you rest you are not alert enough to see when the enemy is coming or to even strategize against the enemy.

The verse if therefore telling us that: Blessed is the man who does not backslide, lose focus nor get weary in the things of God.

Then the scripture goes on to say:

Psalm 1:2-3

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

My interpretation: Blessed is the man who stays focused in the Word of the Lord, making sure to meditate on it day and night. Blessed is the man who does not allow the cares of the world to pull him away from God and cause him to be weary or go into a sitting position.

Remember the disobedient prophet in 1 Kings 13 who only disobeyed God but instead and proceeding along the path which God has told him to walk on, he did the opposite and also stopped to take a seat. This was indeed a powerful prophet who heard the voice of the Lord and spoke thus saith the Lord, but it was at the point when he took a sitting position that he was distracted and fooled by the old backslidden prophet; a situation which led to his death.

This man shall be like a tree planted by the riverside if he stays focused. In other words, this man shall walk in the prosperity of the Lord. This man shall walk with such an anointing that whatsoever he touches it will prosper. Whatsoever He does shall be done well and God shall direct it. Any other way shall cause one to perish.

If you are in a backslidden state today, God is calling you to simply run back to him. He is calling you to refocus your eyes on Him. Confess your sins and get back on true.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Wrong Associations Can Cause You to Fail…Find The River

Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Psalm 1: 1-3 is loaded with such great revelation about your Christian life. God wants you to have the right associations in this season because prosperity is around the corner waiting for you. Just get in alignment.

Here is a brief analysis of what is being said in this scripture:

This scripture obviously indicates that unblessed is the man who walks in the counsel of the ungodly, who stands in the way of sinners and you sit in the seat of the scornful.

There are so many of us who know the Lord but somehow we are still caught up with the wrong people. We continue to seek the counsel of those who have refused to turn over their lives fully or at all to Christ.

You have given your life to Christ, yet still you are entertaining your sinful friends. You say nothing when they joke about the godly things. You say nothing when they utter the ungodly, but yet you have given your life to Christ. Not to mention the scornful with which you still fellowship. You still call them and find them as a source of entertainment. These are the ones who scorn the godly and the things of God. They also treat you with scorn because you have given your life to Christ and have chosen a different way. It’s time to remove yourself from such company!

It is time to let go of all associations with such people, because the word clearly states that when you keep such company you WILL NOT PROSPER. It is only the godly that flees all associations with these kinds of people who are well known for pulling you back down into the lifestyle from which you had been delivered on the day you gave your life to Christ. These are the ones hindering you from being successful. Time to turn your back and walk away from such persons.

You may be new to Christianity but God wants you to know that His desire for you is to bless you and see you successful.

You are called to be like a tree by the riverside. That means that you are called to flourish. Anything next to a river can never die. As the roots of the tree goes down, they will find their way towards the water and will continue to drink. Animals are never thirsty when a river is around. The ungodly suck us dry and God does not want this for you.

Find yourself next to the riverside instead of next to the ungodly because God has a great purpose to work out in you and it will call for you to fixed next to his river.

Sit beside the still waters so that your soul can be filled with all of Him. Sit beside the still waters of the river and allow your roots to go down. That’s where daily meditation on the word of God as mentioned in verse 2 comes in.

As you meditate on the word of God day and night, you allow the roots of your body, spirit and your soul to find the river of living water, which is Jesus. You allow your roots to drink from the river of living water and as you are nourished with the living water of God, you become automatically filled with the ability to be successful and whatever you touch as mentioned in verse 3, will prosper.

Walk next to the river, stand next to river, sit next to the river and receive the prosperity that God has for you. Anything that sits beside a river will be green and green = prosperity.

More than Four Walls

It’s time for christians to see beyond the four walls of the physical church building.
Church is indeed necessary and we see that God commands that we have fellowship with one another in Hebrews 10:25. It reads: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”.
Miracles, signs and wonders take place in the house of the Lord, but it is time for us to balance the equation out and demonstrate this same power on the outside.
The issue: While constantly sitting inside the church we forget the dying souls on the outside that need to be strengthened and revived. We forget evangelism. We forget that the unsaved needs to know a savior. We get caught up in being amongst our christian friends all the time and we forget that the unsaved also need to see the signs, miracles and wonders as well.
We get so caught up with ourselves and all the different activities inside the house that we forget to GO. Jesus WENT.
We forget to talk to those who don’t know Jesus because we are too caught up with ourselves…

THE WORD OF THE LORD TO YOU TODAY: Honor Your Mother & Your Father

My Daughter, My Son…God Says: Honor YOUR FATHER and YOUR MOTHER

Scripture tells us:

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12

God didn’t say to deny them nor hate them for their shortcomings. He simply says…Honor your father and your mother. He doesn’t leave it there. He states that there is a positive result for doing this: that your days may be long upon the land.

WHAT DOES “TO HONOR” MEAN? defines the word honor as:

  1. high respect, as for worth, merit, or rank: to be held in honor.
  2. To show courteous regard

So what is God saying to us today?

God is calling us to exercise high respect and show continuous courteous regard to our parents no matter what they have done or said.

Now this is not only mentioned in the book of Exodus as one of the commandments given unto Moses, but it is repeated in Exodus.

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 5:16)

 The Apostle Paul says:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

(Epehsians 6:1-3)

Paul was very clear to inform the church that this is a first commandment with promise. In other words, Paul was very clear in telling God’s people that it is God’s promise to give us long life on this earth. If we respect our parents, all will be well with us and we will have long life here on the earth, until God takes us home.

From Paul’s words one could conclude that dishonoring your father and your mother will lead to a shortened life span. The onus is therefore on us to walk fully in this promise of God but doing our part. It’s all up to us. We have long life in our hands by the way we respond to our parents.

Moses wrote: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12

God has allotted specific days for us to be here on earth, His question to you today is: Will you yourself cause them to be shortened? …….

Let that question sink in for a while……

Whatever your father or mother has done or not done, said or not said has nothing to do with the fact that above all things we are called to honor.

What will your response be today?

Interesting enough we may saying at this point: You can say all you want, you just don’t know how much he or she hurt or hurts me and I just can’t be nice to him or her.

Ok. That is quite understandable. After all, you alone know the hurt and torment that you have been through. But take a minute to look at Jesus. He was, is and always will be the ultimate example.

His father put Him on the cross for us. He loves us so much that let Jesus become sin for us and suffer for us that we might have a savior. Jesus could have disrespected His father and called on legions of angels to destroy those who were crucifying. Instead He did it and said not my will my thine will be done. He was obedient to God because of the promise in the end, which is for us to have everlasting life.

Similarly God is calling us to be obedient to Him and His word (which is to obey and honor our parents) so that our days would be long in the land which the Lord thy God has given to us.

In some case, you can never get the full understanding of what God is saying without going back to the original language in which the Bible was written.

You will notice that I spoke a lot of being obedient and respectful, but let us take a look at the original meaning of the Hebrew word for “honor”. The Old Testament was originally written in hebrew and the original translation for the word “honor” is “kabad”. Here is what the Strongs Concordance says:

Kabad or kabed {kaw-bade’}; a primitive root; to be heavy, i.e. in a bad sense (burdensome, severe, dull) or in a good sense (numerous, rich, honorable; causatively, to make weighty (in the same two senses):–abounding with, more grievously afflict, boast, be chargeable, X be dim, glorify, be (make) glorious (things), glory, (very) great, be grievous, harden, be (make) heavy, be heavier, lay heavily, (bring to, come to, do, get, be had in) honour (self), (be) honourable (man), lade, X more be laid, make self many, nobles, prevail, promote (to honour), be rich, be (go) sore, stop.

Above all else, the words that stood out to me were “make weighty”, “abounding with” and “prevail”. There is another way that God wants us to see the act of respecting our father and mother.

Let’s take a look at these words that stood for me:

Make weighty – In other words, make your father and your mother become your responsibility.

I don’t believe at all that God is asking us to do the impossible, but as I sought Him for deeper interpretation He brought me to parents in their older years. This has nothing to do with physical size. This is simply telling us that we are called to allow our parents to rest on us and allow their burdens to become our burdens, as they get old. In other words, God commands us to take care of them and take responsibility for them as they reach the age where they are not able to do the things that they could not do before. God says this is all in the process of honoring. Even before they get to this stage, we are called to honor them by being there for them. It is like allowing them to lean on us. As you allow them to lean on you, you will feel their weight but God says He has given you the strength to do it and to be a blessing to them in their old age. As they lean on you, you will feel the weight but see it as an act of gratitude to God for using your father and your mother to bring you into this world.

Abounding with/Prevailing – You are called to abound with or prevail with your father and your mother. This can be seen as simply being there in whatever way possible or needed at the time; whether physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially, socially etc.

What will be your response today?

This may be your question today.

Many of you are going through a lot because of what your mother or father did or did not do to or for you. Many of you didn’t have him or her around while growing up but God is saying to you today, just honor your father and your mother.

God is saying I have a great work for you to do. Don’t shorten your days by dishonoring your parents in their old age. Taking care of your parents is a command from God and He is letting you know that it is not going to be without rewards. Your days will be long in the land, which God has given you.

Why honor him or her when he or she has done nothing for me?

Why honor him or her when he or she has not been there for me?

Why honor him or her when all he or she does is talk about me?

Why honor him or her when all he or she did was abuse me?

God knows the pain and the hurt. He knows the anger on the inside of you, but He is telling you today to just let go. Let go and give it to Him because Jesus is the burden bearer. He said his yoke is easy.

1 Peter 5:7 says Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Matthew 11: 30 says For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

God wants us healed and on the right track.

God knows that some of you have a “favourite” parent because that one has been the one to carry the load for all the years of your life, but He wants you to honor both of them. If one has gone on to eternity, then still honor the one that is still alive. Still do all in your might to show respect the one who remains because respect will lead you walk in the FULL purpose for which God has created you.

The word says that in the end times, children will be disobedient to parents:

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

God is calling us to step up our game in these end times. We are called to be obedient to and to respect our parents so that we won’t be cut off early from the land. The promise of God is long life in the land, which He has given to us once we honor, and prevail with our parents. We are not to give up on them because without them we would not be here alive.

Here are some scriptures to help strengthen you in your journey:

Proverbs 20:20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Exodus 21:17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

Leviticus 20:9 If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his bloodguiltiness is upon him.

Proverbs 30:11 “There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers;

Deuteronomy 27:16 “Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.” Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”

Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.

Matthew 15:18-20 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”

Exodus 21:15 Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.

Proverbs 15:20 A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.

Conceived in Rebellion

Hear the word of the Lord this day:

Some of us have friends and family members who for some reason are always in trouble. Somehow the enemy has them tied up and no matter how much you pray, things seem to be getting worse.

The Lord is telling you to take a look back at them from the womb. Some of them have been conceived in rebellion. So their fruit is rebellion against what is right and godly.

This may sound strange, but what is God saying?

God is saying that some mothers rebelled against God even in the circumstances that they allowed in their lives at the moment of conception. And in taking part in rebellious acts (against God), whatever that act might have been, they would have invited the spirit of rebellion in their lives.

The devil, who cares nothing for us and is the father of rebellion attaches the spirit to the child in the womb. As a result our seed carries the same rebellious spirit which is played out in their behavior. Then we ask ourselves: how did this child turn out this way?

God is saying look back at the conception period and the rebellious circumstances in which the child was conceived or rebellious behavior of the parents in the season of conception.

God gave me this example so that I could better understand what He was saying about being “conceived in rebellion”:

Consider a teenager who defies everything her/his parents say. They sneak out with that certain person even though the parents do everything to hinder it. They continue to rebel against rules, gets sexually active and becomes pregnant. This whole situation is rebellious, the child is therefore conceived in rebellion.

Deuteronomy 28 shows that such rebellious actions against what is godly opens to doors to curses. Rebellion closes to door to the blessings of God (take a look at Deu 28 to see the negative outcomes of a rebellious spirit). Think about it. What open doors are in your life or the lives of others that would have caused the spirit of rebellion to take authority in your bloodline?

I am not sure who this message is for tonight but God says the curse can be broken. You have prayed alot, cried alot and asked God for change. You may have seen slight change in the right direction but somehow the rebellion against the good and right kicks back in.

The Holy Spirit wants you to go back in time. He says go back to conception and break off the curse of rebellion that entered at conception. Repent for your own rebellious acts or those of others and command every rebellious demon plaguing your generational line, friends etc to go back to the pit of hell from whence it came, in the name of Jesus.

You have the authority to wash any spirit of rebellion in the blood of Jesus and command it to be destroyed. Jesus did it and we can too. But He says speak to the spirit which entered at the point of conception. There is something being specific with the demonic world that makes the difference in how victorious we are in our fight.

The Holy Spirit is giving new strategy in this season so that you can have the victory you so longed for.

In the name of Jesus.
