Broken Cisterns…

Last Saturday, as soon as I turned on my bed the Holy Spirit whispered two very simple words to me: “Broken Cisterns”.

As usual, I searched the scriptures and this verse came up:

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13

It seems like God wants to speak to His people.

He is saying that they have they have committed two evils. Some of God’s people have turned away from Him to do their own thing. They have turned their backs from the source of living water.

The scripture says in Psalm 27:1:

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

The Lord is indeed light. The scripture goes on to say in 1 John 1:5:

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

God wants His people to honor Him, but instead we are turning to the fetes, parties, bad living, heartless behaviors and expensive costumes for Carnival. God wants His people to walk in the light and not darkness; He wants them to walk in His ways. Instead we choose the ways to lead to brokenness: We prefer to spend thousands of dollars in things which will perish and not buy a plate of food for a homeless person….And the list could go on.

Where is your heart today? To what have you turned to? What is broken in your life that brings no hope and you seem to can’t let it go?

Secondly, the word of God in Jeremiah 2 states that God’s people have not only turned away from Him but they have chosen to drink from the cup of the enemy which can hold no water.  None of these worldly things which I mentioned before can gain us anything.  The word said Jesus is the living water and when we drink from Him we will never thirst again. Nothing is broken in God because He is a whole God.

Sometimes we live broken lives; lives where no ends meet. We live unhappy and tormented lives and we never seek to consider the life in God which is full of joy, happiness, righteousness and peace in the Holy Ghost. We often choose unholy lives that will lead us to destruction. We give our lives to the enemy without realising that His way is a broad way which only leads to destruction.

God wants you to realise that there is life in Him and there is no destruction in Him.

For the word of God says: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matthew 7:13)

Have your turned away?

Are you drinking from a broken cistern?

Do you want access to a well which never runs dry?

Do you want the way that leads to everlasting life in Christ?

Ten Ways to Study the Word of God:

Tips from Pastor Murrell of the Pegwell Community ChurchBIBLE

Ten ways to study the word of God:

1.    Dedicate time to the Word of God
2.    Pray for understanding of the word of God
3.    Put forth real effort. Do not go to spend time with God when you are really sleep because chances are, you will fall asleep and will have no time with God.
4.    Have a purpose – Know why you are ready the word, Know your aim and what you are seeking from God this way, you read with purpose and not just read for reading sake and because you know it is something you should do
5.    Use a scriptural journal in which you would recorded your journey with God and your spiritual accomplishments
6.    Invite the spirit with some very soft music (this is optional)
7.    Humble yourself before the Lord. Pray for the Lord’s guidance and for Him to take total control in your spiritual journey because He knows all, and is able to guide you
8.    Go line upon line and precept upon precept. Don’t jump all over the place.
9.    Personally apply the word in your everyday life
